ABOUT Author

Lieutenant General V.K. Ahluwalia, PVSM, AVSM**, YSM, VSM, PhD, retired as the Army Commander, Central Command, after a career that spanned over 40 years. Thereafter, he served as a member of the Armed Forces Tribunal, Jaipur, and as Director of Centre for Land Warfare Studies, a think tank. A fervent aviator (helicopters) and a pioneer of Bofors, he underwent training in Sweden, and raised the inaugural Battery of Bofors artillery system for the Indian Army in 1986. The General commanded various units and formations in operational areas such as Rajouri, Uri, Kargil, and Leh-Ladakh, safeguarding our borders with Pakistan and China. He was the first Indian Brigadier to attend the National Defence Course at Dhaka in 2003. As the GOC of the Mountain Division in Kargil, he spearheaded innovative initiatives like ‘Operation Green Kargil,’ which garnered his Division a national award for environmental governance.

He holds a Ph.D. in Internal Security (Naxalism) and Conflict Resolution and has authored several works, including ‘Red Revolution 2020 and Beyond’ and co-edited books on Kargil, COVID-19, and Liberation War @50. In addition to his military accolades, he served as the DG of a group of educational institutions and is currently an Independent Director of a corporate entity.
