Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam a great patriot, visionary and technology leader of India has been the eleventh President of India between 2002 and 2007. Popularly known as the Missile Man of India, Dr. Kalam pioneered India’s space research in his early career and launched India’s first indigenous Satellite Launch Vehicle (SLV-3) injecting Rohini satellite in the near earth orbit in July 1980. After the SLV-3, his significant contribution came in the development of missile technologies which gave India Agni and Prithvi strategic missile. His contributions in making India-a nuclear weapons state are well-known. He chaired Technology Information, Forecasting and Assessment Council (TIFAC) of Science and Technology to evolve Technology Vision 2020 giving a road map for transforming India from the present developing status to a developed nation. His interaction with millions of youth in India and abroad ignited those young minds to envision a great role for them in building a new world of peace, prosperity and happiness. Dr. Kalam has authored many best seller books. He is the recipient of “Bharat Ratna”, the highest civilian award for contribution in the field of science and technology.
Dr. Apathukatha Sivathanu Pillai is Distinguished Scientist and Chief Controller ( Research & Development) of DRDO, and also Chief Executive and Managing Director of BrahMos Aerospace-and India-Russia Joint Venture for the development of BRAHMOS Supersonic Cruise Missile. Dr. Pillai’s forty years of experience in ISRO and DRDO under the great visionary leaders Dr. Vikram Sarabhai & Prof. Satish Dhawan briefly and for longer years with Dr.APJ Abdul Kalam made him a Technology Leader in the field of launch vehicle and guided missiles.
