Libraries are center of creation, processing and
dissemination of knowledge which preserves knowledge for and by the
generations. The development in the Information and Communication Technologies
(ICTs) have brought changes in the process of knowledge creation, processing,
dissemination and preservation. It has eased the work of library professionals,
at the same time raised several new issues like explosive growth of
information, duplication, changes in users information seeking behavior and
rapid change in technologies etc. With the ultimate goal to serve the society,
the library and information specialists are expected to play major role in the
process of consolidation of information in knowledge based society with the
proper use of ICT. In the book the issues of library world such as content
management, In-house practices, IPR and other technical issues have been
covered. The book draws attention on ICT application in academic libraries,
users` expectation in electronic environment, digital preservation, benchmarking,

Dr.
R.J. Maurya is Assistant University Librarian in Uttar Pradesh Rajarshi
Tandon Open University, Allahabad since January 2007. Dr. Maurya started his
career in the year 2003 from Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan, New Delhi. He holds
B.A (Hons) (2001) and MLIS with Gold Medal (2003) from Banaras Hindu
University, Varanasi. He has been awarded PhD Degree in Library and Information
Science from Dr. B.R. Ambedkar University, Agra in the area of
Cost-Benefit Analysis of Digital Collection. Dr. Maurya has
written books in Library Science in addition to publishing paper in learned
professional journals of repute and presented several papers at national and
international conferences. He has also contributed more than 20 chapters in
Self Learning Materials for BLIS and MLIS programme of Uttar Pradesh Rajarshi
Tandon Open University, Allahabad and M.P. Bhoj Open University, Bhopal.
Presently, he is editor of the Self Learning Materials for Library Science
Programs of UPRTOU, Allahabad. He has also delivered several lectures in
national workshops and conferences. Beside the above, he is approved supervisor
for dissertation in Library and information Science programme of IGNOU and
UPRTOU. He has also organized various national and international
seminar/conference and workshop besides being member of organizing committees.
His area of special interest is Information Retrieval, Information Management
