ABOUT THE BOOK
fjrigjwwe9r0pp_Books:Description
Increased use of
radiation technology in the fields of industry, agriculture, food processing,
medicine, research and higher education has resulted in improved quality of
life worldwide. This has increased both the number of sites at which
radioactive material is held and used and the number of staff with the
knowledge of how it might be used. Further a significant quantity of
radioactive material is being transported, stored and redistributed between
hospitals, laboratories, organizations and industry units. Safety and security
of radioactive material has to be ensured to prevent it from reaching malicious
hands.
With the object to
share knowledge and good practices, a national conference on" Industry
Preparedness for Radiological Safety ", was successfully organized by
Centre for Disaster Risk and Safety (C-DRAS) under PHILANTHROPE, in association
with UK-India Bilateral Expert Knowledge Exchange Network on Radiological
Safety. This book has been prepared based on the presentations and discussions
held by eminent speakers and industrial professionals from Private and
Government sector.
The book, published in
collaboration with RUSI (Royal United Services Institute, UK), outlines the
improvement in mitigation strategies and suggests mechanisms through which better
radiological safety can be encouraged by design at the level of industries,
hospitals and organizations. The book covers various aspects of radiation
safety management in health care and industry in India and can provide useful
information to industry professionals, safety managers, medical and hospital
personnel, disaster management personnel, government functionaries, students,
researchers, academicians, and general public in augmenting their efforts
to improve radiological safety.
