ABOUT Author

Prof. (Dr.) Nitin Raghunath Karmalkar is the Hon`ble Vice-Chancellor of Savitribai Phule Pune University. Prof. Karmalkar, a former Head of the Department of Environmental Science, and Department of Geology, is a well-known scientist in the field of Igneous Petrology. With more than 25 years of teaching and a number of research publications in various national and international journals, he is actively involved in academics and research along with constantly guiding various facets of academia. Over the years, he has strongly shouldered various administrative duties at Savitribai Phule Pune University. Prof. Karmalkar has worked with various research collaborators from Australia, France and Germany. He is actively involved in mentoring students for the Earth Science Olympiad. He has been nominated by the Government of India and Maharashtra, in different committees and other various corporate bodies. This background provides him with a blend of strong academics and research experience alongwith administrative expertise. Prof. Karmalkar has acted as the Vice-Chancellor of Solapur and Shivaji University Kolhapur.  Under his dynamic leadership Savitribai Phule Pune University is emerging as one of the best learning centres of Higher Education in India.

Dr. Vijay S. Khare is Professor & Head. Department of Defence and Strategic Studies (DDSS). Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU). Dr. Khare was awarded the Fulbright-Nehru Fellowship by USA and Erasmus Fellowship by the European Commission. He was also awarded Partial Fellowship by the United Nations University. Tokyo. Japan. Dr. Khare was selected for the United Nations Short Course on "Hologrammatic Terrorism" United Nations.Dr. Khare received his Post-Doctoral Fellowship from the University Grants Commission (UGC), and Social Scientist award for the research work under the Indo- French Social Scientist Exchange Programme at the Foundation Maison des Sciences de l`Homme. Paris.Dr. Khare provides an excellent leadership to all international engagements. Under his dynamic leadership, collaborations have been extended with renowned universities. He is engaged in a number of national and international projects and actively involved in European Commission funded projects. Dr. Khare is instrumental to sign MOU with Indian Air Force to establish the first ever Chair of Excellence in India, in the name of Marshal of the Indian Air Force Arjan Singh  DFC and received 1 Crore Grants from Indian Air Force.

He is a former Dean. Faculty of Humanities and holds a number of academic and administrative posts. His areas of expertise are national security, non-traditional security, terrorism and counter- terrorism, peace and conflict resolution, human rights, internationalization of higher education and Ambedkar Studies.
